It gives me great pleasure to launch the website of the Directorate of Mines & Geology, which contains exhaustive information about Mines and Minerals and the laws applicable to them. This website (http://goadmg.gov.in) has been created in tune with this new age of information technology and should become a vital part of all economic activities related to mining. Mining has been most important economic activity of this State for over half a century. Though Goa is a very small in area and can be compared to one district of other states it occupies a position of pride in the Iron Ore mining sector. Its iron ore production is to the tune of 20 million tones per annum which is around one fourth of country’s iron ore production. In the export field, Goa exports over 38 million tones of iron ore which is again around one third of the country’s total iron ore exports. Besides another 7.5 million tones of Karnataka iron ore is exported through Goa.
